Emily De Sousa

Emily De Sousa is an award-winning fisheries scientist, content creator, and science communicator, best known for her work at Seaside with Emily. Currently based in Canada, Emily's roots trace back to the Açores Islands in Portugal, and her insatiable wanderlust has led her to explore over 30 countries.

Her expertise has earned her recognition in various publications, including Good Morning America, The National Post, SeafoodSource, STYLE Canada, The Fish Site, and more. Emily completed her master's degree at the University of Guelph, specializing in small-scale fisheries in North America and investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on seafood supply chains. She has actively engaged with businesses, NGOs, and international bodies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) throughout the seafood supply chain in both wild fisheries and aquaculture.

Globally acknowledged for her contributions, Emily has received prestigious awards such as the Canadian Science Policy Centre's Youth Excellence Award, the Leadership for Climate-Resilient Fisheries Fellowship from Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and a One Young World Ambassador Scholarship to attend the Our Ocean Conference. She has also been recognized as a finalist for the Niagara Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Awards and the RBC Women of Influence Awards.

As the founder of Seaside with Emily, her mission revolves around fostering knowledge sharing, storytelling, and appreciation for seafood. Emily collaborates with visionary leaders in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture to share the world's seafood stories. This mission is a multifaceted tapestry woven from her passion for seafood, travel, the oceans, and the belief that these elements unite humanity in a shared human experience.
