Tom Sorby

Tom Sorby is Operations Manager for Kingfish Maine. He has worked throughout the early development of the company, assisting with site selection, permitting, production planning, and mapping the initial layout of the farm.

Tom Sorby holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Aquaculture at the University of Stirling in Scotland, and BSc from Sparsholt College, part of the University of Portsmouth, in sustainable aquaculture and fisheries management.

Over the years Tom has worked in various aquaculture positions throughout the US and Canada and has focused on the development of new species with proven success in this area. His abilities in developing improved procedure to early life stage culture, as well as staff building and training have resulted in great operational success for various companies growing barramundi, sablefish, salmon, and yellowtail. Design and construction of farm expansions have also resulted in improved production capacity for multiple facilties.

At Kingfish Maine, Tom helped to establish Kingish Maine in the US and focused on the biological prep work for the facility in Jonesport, through the design and construction of broodstock and hatchery systems at the University of Maine’s Centre for Co-operative Aquaculture Research (CCAR).
