Speaker

Slater Daniels

Slater Daniels grew up enjoying the intertwined experiences of being exposed to both the venture growth environment of the Research Triangle, and the rich coastal culture found in his long family lineage on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His passion for seafood and the coast began at an early age as he grew up on the Albemarle Sound, exploring Oregon Inlet and the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” offshore waters of the Outer Banks.

After completing his undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University in biological oceanography, Slater directed municipal and state level projects in the shellfish industry, addressing issues of estuarine resilience and coastal sustainability. Realizing the profound significance of the blue economy and sustainable seafood development, he returned to school to receive his master’s degree in aquaculture at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School, with substantial coursework in fisheries management and seafood marketing.

Slater is now a project developer and sustainability officer for Hilo Fish Company Inc., a leader in worldwide seafood distribution, processing, harvesting, and marketing, with specialization in highly migratory and pelagic species.
