An avid proponent for the rights and empowerment of women and children, Dr. Sita is currently Director of the Addressing Labor Exploitation in Fishing in ASEAN (ALFA), an ASEAN regional project funded by the US Department of Labor.
Prior to joining ALFA, Sita was Head of Poverty Eradication and Gender Division and Assistant Director of Human Development Directorate at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta and Chief of Women and Children Empowerment Program at the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ). She has a wealth of practical experiences on Southeast Asia and has been working extensively on women’s rights, economic livelihoods and development issues in Southeast Asia with the focus on the empowerment of vulnerable groups with the governments, UN agencies and civil society organizations. She holds a PhD in development studies from University of Cambridge.
