Megan Sorby

Megan Sorby is a founder and CEO of Pine Island Redfish. She has led the team through site selection and permitting for the project as well as kickstarted the biological preparation for the facility, including procurement of broodstock and pilot scale production trials.

Megan Sorby holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Aquaculture from the University of Stirling in Scotland, and BSc from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science in marine biology and chemistry. She has spent nearly 2 decades in the commercial aquaculture space, focusing on new species development, establishing or expanding land based facilities, broodstock management and production planning to market.

Megan engaged in roles in across the sector, designing and constructing broodstock facilities and hatchery systems, on the growout side of commercial RAS operations, and dealing with facilities from conceptual formation and procedural R&D to full operations in species such as barramundi, sablefish, and yellowtail. Immediately prior to Pine Island Redfish, Megan has been Operations Managers for Kingfish Maine, a US subsidiary of The Kingfish Company, which produces over 1500 metric tons of Seriola lalandi in land-based RAS. Megan established US operations for the company including permitting their development site in Maine, and building out their smaller facility in Franklin, Maine, where first harvest of 10,000 lbs took place in 2023.
