Luis Bourillon

Luis is a biologist by training with almost 40 years of experience in collaborative work managing marine natural resources and fisheries in coastal zones in México. His career started when he created the NGO Comunidad y Biodiversidad (known as COBI) with five other colleagues, working there for 17 years. His areas of interest are the co-management of fisheries, the creation of community-based fishery replenishment zones (no-take zones), the use of eco-labeling for fisheries, and the creation of multi-stakeholder collaboration projects for sustainability. After leaving COBI, he worked for the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) as a fisheries representative in México, Central America, and the Caribbean, and currently, he coordinates Impacto Colectivo por la Pesca y Acuacultura Mexicanas (ICPMX), a multi-stakeholder collaboration platform which supports sustainability efforts of the fishing and aquaculture sectors in Mexico.
