Laura Peet

With a passion for the oceans and sustainable food, Laura has worked on seafood sustainability issues for over a decade. She has expertise in fisheries and aquaculture sustainability as well as seafood business engagement. As co-founder of Postelsia, which is now a division of Where Food Comes From, Laura manages the Smart Catch program.

Formerly managed by the James Beard Foundation and now under the Where Food Comes From banner as of 2024, Smart Catch aims to create an ecosystem of chefs, producers, and seafood sellers to support and promote greater sustainability within the industry. The program evaluates seafood purchases, offers guidance on sustainable choices, and educates chefs and distributors all while assisting buyers and retailers alike in sourcing responsible seafood to drive positive change throughout the industry. Smart Catch aims to offer consumers an easy way to identify sustainable seafood in restaurants and retail.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double-major in Zoology and French and a Master of Arts degree from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey in International Environmental Policy.
