Speaker

Heather Moretti

Heather Moretti is a sustainable seafood specialist with experience in both aquaculture and wild fisheries, and a background in communications. She has worked with global supply chains as well as hyper local, from the Caribbean to Alaska, Hong Kong to Maine. Whether supporting small scale fishermen in building management plans, engaging sea farmers in new initiatives, or advising international corporations on improvements to their seafood sourcing, her goal is to make seafood sustainable.

After earning her Master’s degree from the University of Miami, Heather went to work with The Billfish Foundation on highly migratory species policy, then entered the seafood industry managing North America sales for a Chilean salmon producer. She worked as a consultant for the Dutch government to develop a FAD management plan for the island of Bonaire, and for the Hong Kong Sustainable Seafood Coalition to create species profiles for wet market seafood buyers. Heather moved to Maine in 2020 to lead the Maine Aquaculture Hub and work with stakeholders on developing the industry statewide, then joined Sustainable Fisheries Partnership to support large retail and foodservice companies in making commitments to sustainable seafood and improvements to sourcing.

Heather is currently based in Portland, ME where she now works with Bristol Seafood on business development. She believes seafood can be part of the solution, and that aquaculture holds hope for global challenges.
