Sam leads McKinley Research Group’s seafood team. In this capacity, he serves as the lead consultant for the firm’s work with the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute and has contributed to dozens of fisheries and mariculture research projects. This work has included developing methods to compare potential Alaska seafood export markets, and refining the firm’s work in estimating volume and value of Alaska’s seafood harvest.
Before joining MRG, Sam developed expertise in Alaska fisheries over 10 years as a journalist in Alaska and a year as a retail fishmonger. In his wide-ranging reporting career, he wrote for the Kodiak Daily Mirror, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, and Alaska Business magazine. He is a geography graduate student at Penn State.
