Judy Gearhart

Judy Gearhart is a research professor at the Accountability Research Center (ARC) at American University’s School of International Service. She leads ARC’s programs on corporate accountability and workers’ rights. Previously, Judy was the executive director of the International Labor Rights Forum (now Global Labor Justice), a leading policy advocacy organization in the US. She has led or supported multi-stakeholder collaborations like the Uzbek Cotton Campaign and negotiations for stronger supply chain compliance programs, including the legally binding Accord for Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. Prior to ILRF, she coordinated consultations and research with trade unions and corporations on Social Accountability International’s SA8000 standard and developed worker rights training with trade unions for workers and factory managers. In the 1990s, Judy worked for human rights advocacy NGOs in the US and Mexico and for UNICEF and the International Labour Organization in Honduras.
