Speaker

Ahmad Mudzakir

Achmad Mudzakir is an Indonesian migrant worker and a leading labor rights advocate based in Donggang, Taiwan. With over two decades of experience in the fishing and seafood processing industries, he has dedicated his life to organizing, empowering, and advocating for fellow migrant fishers.

Since 2015, Mudzakir has served as a central leader of FOSPI (Forum Silaturahmi Pekerja Indonesia), an Indonesian migrant workers’ organization in Taiwan. Under his leadership, FOSPI has grown into a grassroots union representing more than 2,300 members and, in 2022, it has been formally registered as the Pingtung Migrant Fishers Union. He has led successful campaigns for fair wages and the mandatory provision of Wi-Fi at sea—critical steps toward improving labor conditions for migrant fishers.

Mudzakir also played a key role in founding the An-Nur Mosque in Pingtung County, the first mosque in the region, built through years of grassroots fundraising and community effort. His contributions have earned him and the organizations he leads numerous recognitions, including the Hassan Wirajuda Award from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his dedication to protecting Indonesian citizens abroad. Mudzakir continues to advocate for migrant worker rights through coalition-building with governments, NGOs, labor unions, and advocacy networks across Taiwan, Indonesia, and major seafood market countries including Japan, the United States, and across Europe.
