Andrea Caputo Svensson

Dr. Andrea Caputo Svensson is a marine biologist and ecologist specialized in antimicrobial resistance and global health. As Global Health Advisor at ReAct–Action on Antibiotic Resistance, he supports the organization’s policy and scientific work to mobilize global action on the growing crisis of antibiotic resistance.

Dr. Caputo Svensson has played a key role in fostering international dialogue on “One Health” initiatives, especially around the drivers and impacts of antibiotic use in the food supply chain, with a strong emphasis on aquaculture in low- and middle-income countries. His work with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has led to publications exploring the role of aquaculture in the development and implementation of National Action Plans on Antimicrobial Resistance, as well as innovative alternatives to antibiotic use in aquatic farming.

Dr. Caputo Svensson also contributed to the “Antibiotic Use Metrics in Aquaculture” workshop and report, part of Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Antimicrobial Assessment on Global Aquaculture Production (AGAP) project.
