Dr. Sven U. Blankenhorn is Senior Manager of Producer Services at Fair Trade USA, where he represents the organization across the Western Central Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Europe. In this role, he works directly with small- and medium-scale seafood producers to conduct pre-assessments, develop action plans, and provide post-audit support on their path to Fair Trade certification. He also supports the development of training materials, guidance documents, and policy, and facilitates community needs assessments and program impact surveys. Alongside this work, Dr. Blankenhorn consults on Social Responsibility Assessments and labor rights compliance programs for tuna, shrimp, crab, and aquaculture supply chains across Indonesia, the Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. Earlier in his career, he developed sustainable business models for coastal communities, developed coral reef rehabilitation systems, and worked in commercial lobster aquaculture. Dr. Blankenhorn holds a PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of Bremen, Germany, and brings over two decades of field experience in fisheries, aquaculture, and community development across the Indo-Pacific.
