As Head of Blue Marine Foundation’s Investigations Unit, Jess works to research, expose and combat harmful and unsustainable fishing practices. Having worked on campaigns ranging from electric pulse fishing in the North Sea to deep-sea mining in the Pacific, Jess’s current focus is on the unsustainable fishing methods and harmful influence exhibited by the European distant-water tuna fleet. Jess’s recent investigations have focused on the destructive fishing methods used by Spanish and French purse seine fleets and the discriminatory working conditions for West African crew members working aboard EU fishing vessels.
