The conference program will feature a keynote address from Xavier Sala-i- Martin, professor of economics at Columbia University and more than 80 international experts highlighting timely topics impacting the industry
Barcelona, 10 April 2025 – Diversified, organizer of Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global, the largest and most diverse seafood trade event in the world, has announced its continued momentum leading into the 31stedition with 51,024 net square meters of exhibit space as of today and still growing. Taking place from 6 to 8 May at the Fira de Barcelona, Gran Vía, the event will turn the city of Barcelona into an international business hub for the global seafood industry with an estimated economic impact of more than €156 million.
The global expo will provide an international platform for seafood suppliers and buyers from around the world to meet in-person, strengthen existing business connections and forge new strategic partnerships. The event will welcome more than 2,041 exhibiting companies from 84 countries with 65 national and regional pavilions. The number of exhibiting companies continues to grow as pavilions finalize company participation.
New participation from countries and regions including Albania, Egypt, Georgia, Greenland, Malta, Nigeria and Réunion,will join an expanding list of countries on the exhibit floor such as Belgium, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Italy, Japan, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, the UK, the USA and Vietnam. New national and regional pavilions for the 2025 edition will comprise of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), the Japanese Federation of Soy Sauce Manufacturing Cooperatives, Pro Ecuador, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE).

The seafood industry’s largest international showcase
Halls 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the Galleria (between halls 4 and 5) of the Gran Vía venue will become an international showcase of the latest innovations in seafood products, manufacturing and processing technology. The expo will bring together buyers from all over the world, including supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, catering companies, importers, distributors, seafood markets and other retailers and foodservice providers, as well as buyers of seafood processing equipment, packaging, technology and services.

Extensive program of activities to assess the trends, opportunities and challenges in the sector
The keynote address will be presented by Xavier Sala-i-Martin, professor of economics at Columbia University. In his address titled, A New Uncertain World, Sala-i-Martin will lead a discussion on navigating the new economic uncertainties impacting the global seafood industry and the world at large, from international relations to tariffs and more. The extensive conference program will consist of more than 20 sessions led by over 80 international experts from the seafood industry.
This year’s presentations will explore key issues around the current dynamics and emerging trends in the global seafood sector. Discussions will address topics such as traceability and sustainability, with sessions on decarbonization, sustainable packaging and aquaculture practices. Other subjects will include global marketing, consumer and hospitality trends.
The expo will also see the return of the Seafood Excellence Global Awards. These prestigious annual awards recognize the best seafood products represented at the Expo and highlight the latest trends in the sector. The winners will be chosen from the list of finalists, and two top prizes will be awarded to the Best Retail Product and the Best Hotel/Restaurant/Catering (HORECA) Product. Another four special prizes will be awarded for innovation, convenience, retail packaging and the best line of seafood products.
