Patrick Caleo

Patrick joined the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) in 2008 to support the development of the program within Australia and New Zealand. He now serves as the Regional Director for the Asia Pacific. In this capacity, he is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the MSC’s outreach and communications work within the region. Patrick supports the MSC offices in China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Australia to deliver the MSC’s vision- for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, safeguarding seafood supplies now and for future generations.

Patrick is an avid free diver and recreational fisherman. His love for the ocean inspired him to study Fisheries Science at the Australian Maritime College and Marine Ecology at James Cook University. He recognised the important role the market has to play in contributing towards positive change for the oceans early on, completing a Master’s in Business Administration at Deakin University before joining the MSC. Patrick’s love of the marine environment and fishing industry led him to spend much of his career within the seafood industry. He has more than 20 years of experience working with seafood, including 9 years as Buying Executive for one of Australia’s largest retail chains.

Under his leadership, the MSC program in the Asia Pacific has expanded significantly, and is now strongly supported in many parts of the region.
