As the Fisheries Governance and Livelihoods Director at Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, Pedro Ferreiro is responsible for bridging the gap between supply and demand for sustainable seafood from small-scale fisheries, with a special emphasis on markets in the Global South and other markets requiring more experimental initiatives.
Pedro is a marine biologist with many years of experience working with Spanish fisheries and aquaculture operations. Before joining SFP, he worked as a fisheries observer, technical fisheries officer, and sustainable seafood sourcing and labelling advisor to small-scale fisheries and management authorities in Spain. As a fisheries consultant, Pedro was instrumental in leading the first Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification in Spanish waters, and he has worked to improve small-scale fisheries marketing programs. Before his current position, Pedro worked in the Buyer Engagement division at SFP. He has a master’s degree in mariculture science and technology from the University of the Highlands and Islands.
