JAM Seafoods, Inc. is a tuna processing company in Manila, Philippines, supported by the Meloy Fund, an impact investment fund focusing on financing small and medium-sized enterprises sourcing from sustainable fisheries that positively transform the seafood supply chain. JAM’s owner, Sam Garcia has played a key role as the Chairman of the Philippines Association of Tuna Processors, Incorporated (PATPI), a critical stakeholder in driving the Philippine Tuna Handline Partnership (PTHP) alongside two tuna fishers federations and WWF-Philippines to achieve Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification in October 2021.
On this panel, JAM, PTHP and WWF share how they, in conjunction with their partners, support fishing communities through a holistic approach ranging from improving onboard tracking, communications, traceability, and the quality of fish to financial literacy, access to finance and importantly, fisheries management to create an equitable, sustainable, and resilient tuna supply chain.
