Speaker

Cat Dorey

Dr. Cat Dorey has over 20 years experience in environmental and social justice advocacy and activism, and has been campaigning for healthy oceans since 2003. She worked internationally on fisheries and seafood sustainability for 14 years with Greenpeace, and 3 years for the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) on marine protected areas, and seafood traceability and transparency. For the remainder of this time, Cat has been an Independent Advisor on science-based policy development for fisheries management, sustainable and equitable seafood sourcing practices, and fish welfare.
Until May this year, Cat managed the Fair Catch campaign at AMCS, which calls on the Australian Government to develop stronger rules and policies to prevent the importation of illegal and unethical seafood products, and to ensure all seafood in Australia is fully traceable and properly labelled throughout the supply chain. Cat continues to work as a consultant for AMCS.
Cat is the Chair of the Board of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership and is a member of the Steering Committee for Make Stewardship Count and the Management Committee for Permaculture Sydney North. Cat is also a regular guest lecturer and public speaker.
Cat’s mission is to share the best wisdom from the fields of marine ecology and conservation, permaculture and regenerative farming, social justice and animal rights in a way that inspires people, and motivates change in policies and behaviour in order to bring greater protection to all life within, and at the edges of, our oceans.
