Mr. Carroll has 29 years’ experience in the seafood business from vessel to market, covering all types of harvest operations and supply chain areas. Mr. Carroll started his career in the seafood business as a commercial fisherman and USCG Captain on the South Shore of Boston, where Mr. Carroll paid his way through graduate school with earnings from commercial fishing. After graduate school Mr. Carroll spent the next 10 years working in the seafood business for Stop & Shop, Ahold USA, Legal Seafoods and Fishery Products. Mr. Carroll is currently the Vice President of Fisheries and Aquaculture for The VERTEX Companies and co-founder and CEO of BackTracker Inc., a data base company that has developed and is patenting technology that enables seafood products in the market to be validated against government catch records. Mr. Carroll is active in New England Fisheries and is a member of the Advisory panel for the Atlantic Red Crab Fishery as well as the Scientific and Statistical Committee of the New England Fishery Management Council. Mr. Carroll holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Economics and specializes in Fisheries Economics and Seafood Markets. Mr. Carroll not only has extensive hands on experience with fishery supply chains but also has strong working knowledge of all of the latest certification systems and standards.
