Biography
Casey Rutherford is the Director of Retail and Foodservice for Patagonia SeaFarms, the first US company to offer 4-star BAP certified Atlantic salmon & Steelhead Trout from Chile. Her passion for the marine environment began at an early age as she attended The Island School in Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas and spent time studying bull sharks on Fiji’s Shark Reef Marine Reserve. Casey studied Aquaculture and Marine Science at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. During her time with the university’s Aquaculture program, she studied the spawning habits of Cobia, Nassau Grouper, Hirame and Hogfish in recirculating aquaculture systems. Casey began her corporate career working as Giant Eagle’s Frozen Seafood Category Buyer. She viewed the transition from research lab to retail as an opportunity to provide customers with sustainable options and to educate a larger audience on seafood sustainability. Casey returned to Miami, FL to join the Patagonia SeaFarms team and assumed her position on the other side of the table, in retail and foodservice sales.
