What is Newly Required for Importing Seafood to the U.S.?

If you import seafood into the U.S. market place, this session is for you. Join John Henderschedt, Director, and Nina Young, Foreign Affairs Specialist, both with NOAA Fisheries’ Office of International Affairs and Seafood Inspection for a detailed walk through of two major new regulatory programs and their implementation timelines that will directly affect seafood imports to the U.S.
• The Seafood Import Monitoring Program, which establishes a traceability program from the point of harvest to the point of entry into U.S. commerce; and
• (2) Marine Mammal Protection Act Import rule which aims to control against bycatch of marine mammals in fishing operations, will require all imported seafood (wild-capture and farmed) to be held to the same standards that U.S. commercial fishing and farming industries are held to.
