Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee will use her Plenary Speaker platform to address the harmful labor conditions that often are associated with IUU Fishing globally and underscore the responsibility that the private sector bears in curbing these widespread abuses. Deputy Undersecretary Lee will speak to key industry actors to raise global awareness on the significant challenge of ensuring decent work in fishing, an effort underpinned by ILAB policy and engagement work including technical assistance projects. Labor abuses in fishing are a scourge on global seafood trade- government, worker organizations, and private sector need to address and remediate labor violations to bring true sustainability and decent work to fishing globally.
