Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America 2017 Keynote and Conference Program Updates

Experts including a top-chef keynote panel set to dive deep into the business of seafood

PORTLAND, Maine (March 14, 2017) — The organizers of Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America announced the keynote presentation and educational conference program for its event.  Scheduled for this upcoming Sunday through Tuesday March 19-21 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, the exposition is North America’s largest annual seafood industry event.

The keynote, a panel discussion titled “Delicious & Profitable: Chefs Discuss the Business of Seafood,” will take place Sunday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m. Chefs on the panel include Ned Bell of Ocean Wise (and the Canadian TV show Cook Like a Chef), Jeff Black of Black Salt Restaurant Group Rick Moonen of RM Seafood, and Boston’s own rising star Richard Garcia of Crescent Hotels and Resorts North America.

The panel will provide a behind-the-scenes look into how trendsetting North American chefs decide which seafood products to use in their dishes. Because consumer seafood-buying trends tend to follow the culinary leaders – even more so today in the age of Instagram – these decisions have implications extending far beyond their restaurant doors.

“Today’s seafood consumers – younger home chefs in particular – look to experts like the ones on this panel for guidance and inspiration when it comes to choosing foods and preparing new dishes,” said Wynter Courmont, Event Director for Diversified Communications, the company that produces the event. “To get ahead of the consumer trends, these are the voices to listen to.”

The chefs plan to discuss how they balance culinary and nutritional preferences with responsible business and sourcing decisions – all considerations that will be covered in depth throughout the balance of the three-day conference program.

Session topics and titles on the agenda range from “What’s Newly Required for Seafood Imports;” “How Can Market Measures Promote Sustainable Seafood Production and Consumption;” “Financial Outlooks in Seafood;” “Understanding Consumer Perceptions and Preferences for Fresh-Frozen vs. Fresh;” “FDA Customs Seafood Facility Shipment Inspections;” “E-Commerce in Asia;” and more. Speakers hail from leading organizations including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO), FDA Imports, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) and many others. The full conference program can be viewed at http://www.seafoodexpo.com/north-america/conference-program/.

In addition to the educational conference program, the full schedule for the event also includes an exhibition hall packed with thousands of seafood product and processing suppliers from around the world, numerous social events, networking opportunities and special presentations including the highly-anticipated 11th Annual Oyster Shucking Competition.

The Conference program is presented by SeafoodSource, a publication of Diversified Communications, and the official media for Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America.  As the global leader in seafood industry news and information, SeafoodSource will extensively cover the event.
