Guy grew up in Follansbee, West Virginia (for fans of Notre Dame Football, the birthplace and 1st home of Lou Holtz). He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington with a degree in Marine Biology, focus on fisheries. Guy spent 6 years as a field researcher for the National Marine Fisheries Service with responsibility focused on the commercial fleet. He was hired at Publix in 1996 to begin to revamp and build their seafood program. Currently, Guy is responsible for all aspects of seafood operations within Publix stores.
