David E. Wier Seafood Buyer/Category Manager for Meijer David Wier is the Seafood Buyer/Category Manager for Meijer, Inc., the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer that operates more than 240 supercenters and grocery stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Dave joined Meijer in 2001 as a Paint, Plumbing and Electrical Buyer, and has more than 30 years of experience in the retail industry. David was promoted to his current role in 2014. As Buyer/Category Manager, he is responsible for all aspects of seafood buying and merchandising, which includes sales performance plans and ensuring only the freshest and highest-quality seafood is available for customers. In this role, David also oversees the ongoing development of and accountability for the Meijer Seafood Sustainability Initiative that ensures seafood products offered at Meijer stores and caught and farmed in a responsible and sustainable way. This also includes team member education for all fresh and frozen seafood. Prior to this position, David served for 3 years as the Planning Manager for the Meat and Seafood departments at Meijer. In this role, he managed the financial plan, replenishment team, and the implementation of the Manugistic’s automated replenishment system. David is currently serving as the Co-Chairman of the FMI Seafood Strategy committee and has participated in several Global Aquaculture Alliance GOAL conferences as a panelist.
