The event, which will be held 25-27 April at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via venue will offer more than 20 educational sessions during the three-day Expo. The program will cover practical and theoretical in-depth topics such as leadership in the seafood industry, the development of markets for fish and aquaculture, sustainability and sustainable fisheries, projects to combat the effects of climate change and its challenges, traceability and opportunities and solutions for the industry at a global scale, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speakers in the program will include more than 85 international industry experts \u2014 from seafood professionals and leading policymakers&nbsp; to entrepreneurs, representatives of NGOs and experts in biodiversity and sustainability, including Megan Greene, global economist; Javier Garat, Chairman of the International Coalition of Fisheries Association (ICFA); Joe Bundrant, CEO of Trident Seafoods; Regin Jacobsen, CEO of Bakkafrost; Laur\u00e8ne Jolly, Policy Officer at the European Commission (DG MARE); Alf-G\u00f8ran Knutsen, CEO of Kvar\u00f8y Fiskeoppdrett AS; Felix Ratheb, CEO of Sea Harvest Group Limited; Andrew Russell, Global Sustainable Sourcing Lead \u2013 Fish for Mars Petcare ; Safa Souidi, Analyst, EUMOFA Team at AND-INTERNATIONAL; Mariana Toussaint, Fishery Expert at the UN&#8217;s Food and Agriculture Organization; and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference program will start on 25 April, the first day of the Expo, and will feature the session &#8220;Building Future Seafood Consumers&#8221;, where speakers from SalmonChile, International Coalition of Fisheries Associations (IFCA) in Spain and COMEPESCA in Mexico will share success stories and case studies about tools and strategies used to increase seafood consumption from their respective countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session \u201cPlanning Around Uncertainty: Business Strategies for Strange Economic Times\u201d will be held on the same day. In this panel discussion, Cliff White, Executive Editor at SeafoodSource.com will lead a discussion with four seafood industry CEOs from Trident Seafoods, Bakkafrost, Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Sea Harvest Group Limited. Attendees will learn how these leaders managed their companies during the pandemic and how they are planning for future success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s keynote address will welcome back Megan Greene, global economist, <em>Financial Times<\/em> columnist and Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. In her session &#8220;Navigating the Global Polycrisis&#8221;, Greene will examine the global economy in the face of the war in Europe, an energy shock, high and persistent inflation, a global monetary tightening cycle, a strong US dollar, China&#8217;s reopening and global indebtedness, to name only a few. She will explore whether fiscal and monetary authorities can manage to navigate the situation without causing a global recession and discuss what the global economy will look like once the dust has finally settled on all these issues. Greene\u2019s keynote will take place on 26 April and is free and open to all attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another headline session will be given by \u00c0ngels Segura, Responsible for Seafood Sector at AECOC, under the title \u201cInternational Retail Trends in Seafood\u201d. This presentation will unveil the results of an in-depth international benchmarking report, where the most innovative solutions in product, packaging, communication and best practices in selling seafood worldwide will be shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sustainable fisheries have moved from being an option to become a necessity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main focuses of the program continues to be responsible fisheries and sustainability as major drivers of future action. Industry players such as Claudia Contreras, Economic Affairs Officer at UNCTAD; Giorgio Gallizioli, researcher in agriculture and fisheries matters; Javier Garat; Jennifer Dianto Kemmerly, Director of Sustainability at the Monterey Bay Aquarium; Audun Lem, Deputy Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division of the FAO; Mariana Toussaint, FAO; and Lamia Znagui, Director, Moroccan Federation of Seafood Processing and Valorisation Industries (FENIP), will discuss the major challenges for fisheries and aquaculture products, such as climate change, in their session \u201cMoving Towards Sustainable Fisheries: Climate Change and the Implementation of the WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies\u201d on 26 April. The underlying threats from climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, together with direct threats and crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, demand decisive action in the sector. The long-term sustainability of the industry is crucial for the livelihoods, food security and nutrition of billions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, attendees have an opportunity to learn from experts outside the seafood sector in the session &#8221; Supply Chain Equity: Value distribution in Blue Swimming Crab and Mahi Mahi and Lessons from the Cocoa Industry.\u201d Peter Zandee from Tony\u2019s Chocolonely along with Susanna Balaguer Serra from Impact Institute, and Leonardo Pradela from the Walton Family Foundation will discuss equity in supply chains through using assessments from specific fisheries and Tony\u2019s Chocolonely\u2019s journey developing 100% exploitation free chocolate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complete conference program can be found on the event website at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seafoodexpo.com\/global\/conference-program\/\">https:\/\/www.seafoodexpo.com\/global\/conference-program\/<\/a>.
