Lack of traceability of seafood from the sea to the table including imprecise or unverifiable information across the supply chain is a key driver to the continuation of IUU fishing practices. Information on where and how fish are caught, transferred and packaged are often lost or unverified along the supply chain, resulting in the encouragement of IUU fishing practices and an increased risk of seafood fraud. Seafood fraud ranges from mislabeling of species and weight, to shipping through different countries to avoid duties and tariffs. It can create significant additional costs on the consumer\u2019s end as well as misleading them upon making healthy choices. As major seafood producers, consumers and exporters, Asian stakeholders are having to navigate the different import control and traceability schemes and market expectations with regards to seafood monitoring and traceability.
