After researching fisheries management systems and community based management cases in Japan’s coastal fisheries, Aiko joined WWF Japan as the Ocean and Fisheries Group Leader. She Joined Seafood Legacy in 2019 and manages the pre-competitive seafood business platform program in collaboration with domestic and international stakeholders. Aiko also plays the role of the independent coordinator of the “IUU Forum Japan” which is a coalition of Japan based NGOs group. Masaya Katoh is Secretary General of Marine Eco-Label Japan Council and Assistant to Director of Japan Fisheries Association. He previously worked as Director, Research Center for Bioinformatics and Biosciences (formerly RC for Aquatic Genomics) NRIFS, Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA). He has had a special focus on sustainable fisheries in Asia and had worked as Deputy Chief of Marine Fishery Resources Development and Management Department of Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC/MFRDMD) for eight years. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Zoology from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in Marine Sciences from University of the Ryukyus.
