Connecting the Value Seafood from Small Scale Producers to Interested Buyers

Sustainable seafood solutions are anything but simple. Part of the reason for this is that there are many producers that operate on a small scale. These producers have powerful stories which could be unlocked but only if by preserving the identity of the product while delivering transparency and trust. It is exactly similar to buying food from a neighboring farm where we know the product is best quality, produced in the best method while on top we know the farmer themselves but instead we are trying to do that across cultures and across the globe. Taking a leap much forward and far from this, the seafood industry is a highly […]

Creative Financing Towards Sustainable Fishery Management in a Post-COVID Seafood Sector

As the post-COVID hospitality sector and seafood market bounces back with increased orders and in many cases, record prices for raw materials and logistics, seafood processors and other participants in global supply chains are facing tremendous working capital constraints. Increased demand and limited supply may also lead to disincentives to adhere to fishing regulations and responsible practices, despite increasing demands from consumers for high quality, well-traced, and sustainably-sourced products. Aquaculture InnovationCase study 1: Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (ACE, Eco-Ark®)

Established in 2017, ACE aims to revolutionize fish farming. The Eco-Ark® is a game-changing farming solution to address challenges faced by the conventional open net cage farming systems. It is climate resilient and overcomes external calamities. In Eco-Ark® closed-containment system the tanks can be of varying depth depending on locations of the Eco-Ark. As the farming extends vertically downwards without going against gravity there is necessity to expense energy to pump seawater upwards. Eco-Ark® combines Offshore & Marine Technology with a closed containment system, using the water treatment technology of drum filters and ozonation to sterilize the seawater and to reduce harmful pollutants in order to provide good quality seawater […]

Recirculating Aquaculture: What is Next?

Europe (Scandinavia, France & Spain) Japan, USA and the Middle East have recently seen exciting massive new RAS (recirculating aquaculture systems) projects that have attracted major seafood companies and investors alike. Recirculating aquaculture seems indeed to be a no brainer: great for the environment; technologically mature; promising for markets; profitable for investors. On the other hand, many hurdles still pave the road ahead of these projects: high capital intensity; unproven technology for big volumes; permitting and regulatory constraints, water issues and animal wellbeing among a few. The panel including relevant committed professionals will discuss the situation ad hoc and the challenges facing the industry.

Food Control Digitalization

The new era of the digitalization is reaching the processing plants, the retailers, traders and the catching boats. Implementing traceability over quality and quantifying the level of bacteria and allergens in different points of the supply chain, to ensure values and offer accessibility to a trusted data to facilitate and fasten decisions. This session addresses: 1) Key parameters and allergens under regulation for export purpose 2) Ensuring the quality over the supply 3) Data collecting and benefits and improvements over the data analysis

Supply Chain Under Stress: How Changing Realities are Driving Innovation in Seafood Transactions

Sourcing and selling seafood have become tremendously challenging over the past 2 years. Shifting consumer patterns, the impact of climate change on yield, pandemic restrictions, a supply chain and shipping crisis in ports worldwide and now rapidly changing international trade sanctions all call into question whether our global networks are nimble enough to withstand change. Previously reliable suppliers or distribution outlets may no longer be viable today, so to survive we all need to find new partners to trust, and new ways to do business that are more scalable and less risky than our prior methods. This session focuses on two key questions: 1) How do you discover which counterparties […]
